Coin Toss
If you'd believe it, the Super Bowl coin toss is the most heavily bet prop of the entire game. A simple 50-50 proposition, will it be heads or tails? You can bet for the coin to be heads or tails, you can bet on whether the team who wins will kick or receive, and you can bet on whether the team that wins the coin toss will win the game.
Here are the current odds for the coin toss:
- Heads (-105)
- Tails (-105)
In Super Bowl history, heads has won 24 times, while tails has won 29 times.
National Anthem: Over/Under 117.5 seconds
The second prop bet you can place before the game has even kicked off is the over/under for the National Anthem. This year's anthem will be a duet between country singer Eric Church and R&B artist Jazmine Sullivan. As of this writing, the over/under is set at 117.5 seconds (-115). Church once said he would never perform the anthem, so this is his first time singing. Sullivan has sung the anthem twice: once before a Philadelphia 76ers game and once before the NHL All-Star Game. Her times came in low, at 100 and 104 seconds.
Color of Gatorade Poured on Winning Coach
You'll have to wait a while to cash this bet, but you can place a wager on the color of Gatorade poured on the winning coach, as is tradition.
The current odds for this bet:
- Orange (+100)
- Red/Pink (+175)
- Clear/Water (+175)
- Yellow/Green/Lime (+200)
- Blue (+650)
- Purple (+650)
When the Chiefs won last year, the Gatorade color poured on head coach Andy Reid was orange. Two of the last three Super Bowls that Tom Brady has won with the Patriots involved Blue Gatorade poured on Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
After opening kickoff, will Jim Nantz or Tony Romo mention Sarah Thomas before there is a score?
- Sarah Thomas Mentioned (-140)
- First score (+120)
Sarah Thomas is making history as the first woman to referee a Super Bowl. You can bet on whether the announcing team will make reference to this historic case before a touchdown is scored. In some ways, this may be a bet on whether you think a flag will be thrown before one of the teams scores a touchdown.
Result of first coach's challenge
- Call overturned: -135
- Call upheld: +105
Now officially into the game, the Super Bowl offers way more game props than during the regular season. One of interest could be the result of the first coach's challenge. If no challenge flag is thrown, this bet will be refunded.
Total times the chains will be used to measure for a first down: Over/under 1.5
A fun bet to place could be how often we get to see the chain gang come out in the Super Bowl. The over/under odds are at your standard (-115).
Maybe there's a case for the referee group to want to get things right in the biggest game of the year, thus bringing out the chains more than normal.
Fat Man Touchdown
- Offensive Lineman to Score a Touchdown (+2000)
- Defensive Lineman to Score a Touchdown (+800)
Who doesn't love a Fat Man Touchdown? The odds for a defensive lineman are a bit more realistic, as either the Chiefs or Buccaneers defensive line could pick up a fumble and rumble home to cash on your +800 ticket. With menacing defensive tackles on both teams, it's an intriguing bet. For an offensive lineman to score, we'll need to see a trick play near the end zone. The Chiefs have run trick passing plays to their offensive linemen before, especially Eric Fisher. Unfortunately, Fisher tore his Achilles in the AFC Championship Game and will not be playing.
Any Field Goal or Extra Point Attempt to Hit Uprights or Crossbar
- Yes: +375
- No: -590
This is the "Doink Special," as it's known on DraftKings Sportsbook, where you can bet on a kick hitting the upright. The field goal unit coming out can sometimes be a disappointment when you're betting on players to score, but this bet would add some spice and intrigue to each kick in Super Bowl LV.
Team to Record Three Punts First
- Chiefs: +125
- Buccaneers: -155
One of the more unorthodox bets could be focused on the punting game. It's an interesting way to hedge your emotions if you've placed player props or bets on the game's over.
If offenses start to struggle, you can have a consolation prize in place to be rewarded for a team's inability to move the ball.
Jersey Number of Last Touchdown Scorer
- Over 24.5 (-121)
- Under 24.5 (-103)
If you look a level deeper, what this bet really is, if whether you think the last touchdown scorer is going to be a running back/tight end or a wide receiver/quarterback. Most of the receivers for both teams wear numbers in the teens, along with both Brady and Patrick Mahomes. Both teams' running backs have numbers higher than 24.5, and the tight ends all wear numbers in the 80s.
