Updated Betting Odds to win 2024 Stanley Cup
The first round of the National Hockey League postseason is nearly finished. We are closing in on 8 teams remaining in the quest for Lord Stanley’s Cup. The betting odds have moved a little back and forth during the postseason. It is important to note that these odds are as of Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, BEFORE the games are played in the evening, which will certainly affect the odds one way or the other. Let’s take a look at the updated betting odds to win the 2024 Stanley Cup:
Carolina Hurricanes +400
The oddsmakers love this Carolina team. Rightfully so, though. The Hurricanes made quick and easy work of the Islanders winning four out of five. Carolina battled at the top of the East all season, finishing just behind the Rangers. The Hurricanes score 3.38 goals per game, and allow just shy of 2.6. Carolina has great balance in their scoring anchored by Sebastian Aho, and Jake Guentzel. Carolina looks to get a second round matchup starting on the road at the Rangers.
Florida Panthers +475
Florida beat up on Tampa Bay in Game 5 to win the series 4-1. It was a good test in the first round of the postseason, as Tampa had plenty of cup experience. They passed the test with flying colors. This second-round matchup, likely against Boston, is why winning their final four games of the regular season was a big deal. The Panthers get home ice advantage starting in Game 1. The Panthers scored 4 goals per game in the series win over the Lightning.
Edmonton Oilers +475
The Oilers were the second team in the Western Conference to grab their spot into the second round. The Oilers beat up the Los Angeles Kings. In the five game series, Edmonton started hot offensively, with 7 goals in the opener. THey slowed it down later, but got defensive. The Oilers allowed just a total of four goals over the final three games of the series. The Oilers will likely get a second-round matchup against the Canucks, who beat them by 5 points in the Pacific Division standings.
Colorado Avalanche +550
The Avalanche were the first Western Conference team to enter the second round. Colorado beat the Jets 4-1 in the series. The Avalanche used plenty of offense. In the five games, the Avalanche scored 28 goals. Their lowest output was five in Games 2 and 4. This postseason, the Avalanche have had Nathan MacKinnon record a point in each of the five games. He had two assists in both Game 4 and Game 5. Colorado is second in odds out of the West at +550.
Dallas Stars +700
After a slow start to the series, which saw them trail 2-0, with back to back home losses, Dallas has now won three straight games. The Stars have a chance to move to the second round with a win in Vegas on Friday. If Dallas cannot win that one, they will host Vegas on Sunday in a winner take all. The Stars have not seen a ton of offense, as they have scored just 14 goals in five games. Defense and key goals will be the main ingredient for this Dallas squad that won the Western Conference top seed.
New York Rangers +750
Oddsmakers just do not love what the New York Rangers bring to the table. The Rangers won the President’s Cup for the most points in the regular season. Artemi Panarin led a really talented offense with 120 points. Igor Shesterkin has been brilliant between the pipes. The Rangers have the guard as their home ice advantage. Some question why oddsmakers are down on New York, but we will find out quickly when they host Carolina in round 2.
Boston Bruins +1100
Head Coach Jim Montgomery was angry following Game 5. His anger was made for his team. We will see if the Bruins can bounce back in Game 6 and win one in Toronto on Thursday night. If they do, they will get a second round matchup with Florida. If they lose, they will be forced into a game 7 at home over the weekend.
Vancouver Canucks +2200
The Canucks now find themselves a single win away from heading into Round 2. Vancouver could not get the job done on Tuesday; falling in the game 2-1. Vancouver would love to get a little offense going, and see if Nashville can keep up playing a faster, higher scoring style of game. If Vancouver does win in this series, it is likely they will see a red hot Edmonton squad in round two.
Toronto Maple Leafs +4500
The Maple Leafs have their backs to the wall. Thursday night, they will host Boston, in an effort to force a game 7 of the series. They won Game 5 without Auston Matthews, and will likely be without him again. A big savior in Game 5 was the play of goaltender Joseph Woll. It is unsure whether it will be Woll or Ilya Samsonov in game 6, but regardless, the Maple Leafs are 45/1 for a reason.
Vegas Golden Knights +4500
The defending champions are on the ropes. After losing Wednesday, Vegas is a loss away from being eliminated. The Golden Knights have lost three in a row. The Golden Knights did not have a great regular season, and reality could be setting in that their chances of going back to back are not great.
Nashville Predators +7000
The final team out of 11 in terms of odds is the Nashville Predators. The Predators made the postseason as the first wildcard out of the West. They finished with 99 points, which was tied with the Los Angeles Kings. The Predators have held the Canucks to just a single goal in both postseason wins, so the recipe is set for them when they get back at it on Friday.
There you have it. Those are the 11 teams remaining as of Thursday May 2nd, 2024 in the afternoon odds. Good luck with all your National Hockey League betting. We will be back with more thoughts as we get closer to the Stanley Cup Finals.
