Open Championship Betting Odds
The 152nd Open Championship will take place at Royal Troon Golf Club, starting July 18th and wrapping up July 21st. The prize pool for this big event is listed at $16.5M. The course in Scotland is one of the oldest courses in the world. This is set to be a very challenging weekend for all of the best golfers in the world. Brian Harman is the defending champion, as he won at Royal Liverpool last season. Cameron Smith and Colin Morikawa were the two winners before that. The last time the event was played at Royal Troon was back in 2016 when Henrik Stenson held on to beat Phil Mickelson by three strokes. Let’s take a look at the current betting odds for the 2024 title:
Scottie Scheffler +410
No list is complete without Scheffler sitting at the top of it. He comes in at +410 to win the event. Any event he has played at, he has been a major threat, if not THE winner. Scheffler is playing incredible golf, with six wins on the season. He leads all of the world in Top 10 finishes as well, with 13 so far this season. Scheffler has been doing everything right on the course, as he is second in greens in regulation and third in proximity to hole. It has been an interesting year for Scheffler, we will see if he can pick up his second major win of the season.
Rory Mcllroy +750
When the odds do not reflect Scheffler, it is likely Rory Mcllory. Listed as the second best odds to win the Open Championship, the Northern Ireland golfer has some unfinished business to take care of. Rory feels he should have won the US Open, as he finished second and earned over $2.3M in doing so. This season, Rory has two wins, and 5 Top 10 finishes. 12 times, Mcllroy has finished in the Top 25. Rory has been the longest driver this season, as he is hitting it more than 318 yards per drive. It will be fun to follow Mcllroy at Royal Troon.
Bryson DeChambeau +1200
DeChambeau moved to 9th in the world following his win at Pinehurst in the US Open. He then went to Nashville for the LIV event, and was in the mix, finishing third. That grabbed him $1M prize winnings. DeChambeau can be fairly hit or miss, but as of late he has been playing really solid golf. Known as one of the smartest players on the tour, he will have his work cut out for him navigating this Scottish course.
Xander Schauffele +1400
Xander is ranked third in the world behind Scottie and Rory. That is not a surprise, as he has had a really nice 2024 season. Schauffele, Scheffler and DeChambeau have been the three major winners this season. Xander got his back in Mid May at the PGA Championship. His final day 65 was a big part of the weekend win that earned him $3.3M. Schauffele went tied for 13th last week at the Travelers. He has been great all over the course, but his strength has been in the scrambling, where he is fifth among all active golfers.
Ludvig Aberg +1600
The narrative remains for the 24 year old from Sweden. The former Texas Tech golfer continues to be talked about as the next to take down a major championship. This is his final opportunity in 2024. Aberg is coming off a 27th place finish at the Travelers Championship. His last two majors were nothing to brag about, as he missed the cut at Valhalla, and finished +1 at Pinehurst to just fall outside the Top 10. Aberg has been great with proximity to hole, as he is sixth, at 35’1” so far this season.
Jon Rahm +2000
Health could be an issue for the 29 year old from Spain. He withdrew from Houston in early June and did not play in the US Open at Pinehurst. He did recently play in Nashville, and seems to be back on track, but Royal Troon is going to be a different animal. His third place finish at Nashville garnered him $1M in winnings. Events are always more fun when Rahm is in the mix, so it will be interesting to see how he responds.
