2023 National League Most Valuable Player Updated Odds
The Major League Baseball season rolls along, and we start to approach the trade deadline and the dog days of August.
It’s time to start looking at the 2023 National League Most Valuable Player Updated Odds to see who to watch as we go down the stretch run of the season.
Ronald Acuna Jr -550
The Braves slugging outfielder has been outstanding from start to finish this season. Acuna Jr is second in batting average, with a .332 batting average. The big key for Acuna Jr. has been hit health.
That’s propelled the Atlanta Braves to the best record in all of Major League Baseball. Batting lead-off, he can oftentimes set the whole tone of the game with his ability to get on base and move up with his speed.
The slugger also has 23 home runs and 58 runs batted in. The 58 runs batted in lead all lead-off hitters in baseball. He also leads all Major League Baseball players in runs scored, with 87.
Freddie Freeman +700
The lefthanded first baseman has been outstanding for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Freeman is a huge reason why the Dodgers have taken over as the leader in the National League West.
Freeman has the second-best OBP in all of baseball at .410. His slugger, at .850, trails only Shohei Ohtani, and he sits with a .990 OPS. Freeman is third in batting average at .329 and has 20 home runs and 70 runs batted in.
There is no doubt if Ronald Acuna was not having the season he was having, the veteran, former Atlanta Brave would take down the award. It looks like he’s in pretty good shape to come in as the runner-up.
Mookie Betts +1200
Back to back Dodgers on the list. Betts continues to assault the opposing pitcher all over the diamond. The greatest feat for Betts this year has been his ability to play all over the field.
Betts got some time at second base and also shortstop this season. He currently sits second in the National League in home runs, only trailing Matt Olson. Betts has 67 runs batted in, and his .277 is up near the top of the list as well.
The punch in the lineup that features Freeman, Betts, Muncy, and Martinez is going to be one that scares opposing pitchers all throughout the postseason. The Dodgers look to be running away and hiding with the National League West.
Corbin Carroll +5000
It has been an absolutely fantastic season for the young rookie. Carroll has not started to slow down like many projected he might. He has played in 96 games in his first season with Arizona and has a .280 batting average and 21 home runs.
Carroll has also driven in 55 runs and is near the top of the National League with 72 runs scored. In the first half of the season, Arizona was the talk of the league, in first place in the National League West.
Since then, though, the Dodgers have made a move, which puts Arizona in a spot to compete with Philadelphia, Miami, Milwaukee, and San Francisco for the three wild card spots in the National League. Carroll is not likely to win this award, but he should grab a different award at the end of the season.
Juan Soto +6000
Really it’s been a disappointing season for Soto in San Diego. Many projected after getting moved there a year ago, he was ready to lead the Padres and win this award. Soto has played in 101 games, so it’s not an injury thing. While his numbers are not bad at all, the Padres just cannot find themselves out of the mud.
San Diego continues to play fourth-place baseball in the National League West with no real path to finding the postseason. Soto is hitting .262, and he has 19 home runs and 60 runs batted in. He and his teammate Manny Machado continue to drive in runs, yet the Padres still remain under .500.
Others in Consideration
- Luis Arraez +7000 - likely to win another batting title
- Matt Olson +9000 - has been hot over the summer, another Atlanta bomber.
- J.D. Martinez +10000 - the third Dodger slugger on the list
- Fernando Tatis Jr +10000 - once again, another Padres slugger that has underachieved.
- Christian Yelich +10000 - the Brewers are in a race for the divisional title.
- Bryce Harper +10000 - Can the Phillies regain their 2022 magic as the postseason arrives?
It appears as we move into August, oddsmakers feel the winner of this has already pretty much been decided. It would take an epic collapse, one of the ages by Acuna Jr, not to win this award.
It will be interesting to watch as the teams come down the stretch. Also, it will be fun to follow. Enjoy, and good luck!
