Best MLB Games to Bet Wednesday
MLB Games to Bet Wednesday, July 6, 2022
Major League Baseball is here to help break the post-holiday hangover with another day chock-full of top-tier action.
The Atlanta Braves continued their hunt for first place in the National League East by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, while the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox to draw within one game of a second place in the American League East.
These are the best betting picks for Wednesday's games.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Miami Marlins
The Angels have one of the best, if not the best, superstar pairs in the league in Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, but their combined excellence has not been enough to rid LA of its glaring inconsistencies this season.
The team is only 37-45 on the year, good for fourth in the American League West, and has lost four straight games, the most recent of which was a 2-1 defeat to the Miami Marlins in game one of their ongoing series.
The Angels will have their best chance possible to end the treacherous streak when Ohtani takes the mound, having failed to allow a single earned run in his last three starts, but they still must regain some momentum in the box to do so.
The Marlins, meanwhile, actually have a better overall record (39-40) than the Angels and enter the matchup riding a six-game win streak. The South Floridians tend to go as their pitching staff goes, but to their credit, they have one of the better assemblies of arm talent in the league; just last night, Cy Young favorite Sandy Alcantara bolstered his resume by tossing eight sorceress innings, along with ten strikeouts.
Third-year player Trevor Rogers will assume the mantle on Wednesday, having failed to find the same level of success as he did as a sophomore but coming off of a five-inning start during which he allowed just one earned run.
Texas Rangers vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles have been the best team in baseball against the spread, covering nearly 63% of their runlines; at its most basic element, this means that bettors would practically be guaranteed positive returns if they bet on the Orioles and nobody else throughout the season.
While this is simply a trend and not a projection of the future, it must be said that Baltimore plays with one of the most intense and unified spirits in the league and often converts in big moments despite being just 38-44 and last in the AL East for the year.
Spenser Watkins (1-1, 4.61 ERA) will get the starting nod after holding the Minnesota Twins to one earned run in six innings his last time out.
The Rangers, to their credit, are second-best against the spread but have failed to impose their will on the series, losing nail-biters in the first two games.
Their team is often reliant on offensive outbursts from players such as Corey Seager, who just managed to break a 13-game home run-less streak on Tuesday; he and his fellow sluggers will need to make some noise on Wednesday for Texas to realistically have a chance of getting revenge on Baltimore, especially with Glenn Otto (4-4, 5.63 ERA) leading their defensive effort from the rubber, having just given up four earned runs in four innings against the New York Mets during his last appearance.
New York Yankees vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Yankees almost inexplicably fell to the Pirates on Tuesday 5-2, which is why this game is no longer irrelevant and a foregone conclusion, and instead a somewhat interesting matchup for the neutral fan.
Aside from having a collection of the best long-ball hitters in the league, led by Aaron Judge, the pinstriper also have the league's most productive rotation of pitchers and a stellar bullpen to complement, all of which have led to the 27-time World Series champions producing the league's best record.
Luis Severino (4-3, 3.35 ERA) will lead the effort, admittedly as one of the lesser talents in the starting rotation, but with a 2.41 ERA against sub-.500 ball clubs.
The Pirates represented themselves extremely well on Tuesday and have somehow managed to go 8-1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Yankees thus far despite being 33-47 overall, marking them as a team that rises to small challenges, even if they are not talented enough to sustain a divisional challenge throughout an entire season.
Jack Suwinski was the hero on Tuesday, producing two hits, two RBIs, and two runs in the team's surprise victory, and he will need to be on the mark again if Pittsburgh has any hopes of replicating their past success.
Mitch Keller (2-5, 5.14 ERA) will get the start for the home team after giving up five earned runs in four innings against the Washington Nationals in his last stint of action.
