Best MLB Games to Bet Wednesday, May 18, 2022
The 2022 Major League Baseball season has hit the point where early-season surprises are no storylines, and the powers of the league have been cemented.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres recently usurped the New York Mets for the best record in the National League, while the New York Yankees are continuing to hold strong in the American League with baseball’s best record.
Here are the games you need to bet on Wednesday. See all our MLB Odds Here
Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins
The Nationals have not done anything of significance this season, posting a 12-26 record that falls to 7-11 on the road en route to what is guaranteed to be a season without any playoffs.
Washington is in need of a total rebuild after it traded Max Scherzer and Trea Turner to the Dodgers last season, and now it appears that a struggling and disinterested Juan Soto could also be on the chopping block after the team failed to negotiate a long-term extension with last year’s MVP candidate. Josiah Gray (4-3, 4.34 ERA) will be on the bump for the visitors as he hopes to extend his winning record.
Miami does not have a powerful offense, but they have found success against a porous Nationals defense and outscored them by a combined total of 13-3 in the first two games of the series; both Marlins wins.
Miami is 9-9 at home, improving on their 17-19 total record, and needs every divisional win it can get if it wants to mount a charge to the postseason. Pablo Lopez (4-1, 1.05 ERA) will be on the bump for the favorites as he looks to continue what has been a phenomenal individual start to his campaign.
New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Yankees have been and currently are the best team in baseball and the best team in the AL by a decent margin, claiming a 227-9 record and winning their last nine outings.
They have overwhelming slugging potential in the form of Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton, and they have also shored up their defense and won many close games that last year’s outfit would have likely lost.
Grit Cole (3-0, 2.95 ERA) will get the start for the pinstripers, who could officially win the four-game series with their third straight win against Baltimore today.
The Orioles have improved from last season but are still a long way off from competing against the top powers in the AL, both on offense and defense.
At just 14-23 and having gone 2-6 against the Yankees this season, there is very little to point to that suggests that Baltimore could come out with a win in their home park. Jordan Lyles (2-3, 4.38 ERA) will be charged with slowing down a red-hot Yankees team Wednesday night.
Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays have been disappointing thus far— not in the sense that they have been a bad team, but they have not been dominating the league as many expected in what was supposed to be their first year challenging for the World Series with their current crop of talent.
Instead, Toronto has only managed to go 20-17, this in the AL East, though they did win the first two games in the current series against the Mariners and have won three of four.
The team’s offense is not lighting up the scoreboard like it was supposed to, but the defense has been solid; today’s effort will be anchored by Kevin Gausman (3-2, 2.40 ERA). The Mariners have done well to assume a 16-21 record, considering the roster that they are working with.
Their offense is fairly limited in terms of exploding, and their batting average is not exactly elite either, as they have already been outscored 9-2 in two games against Toronto in this series. Marco Gonzales (1-4, 3.38 ERA) will have the job of getting his team over the hump or risk being swept.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
The Rangers, meanwhile, can score in a hurry on their day but are too inconsistent to view as reliable bets. They also have the fourth-worst standard at the plate and can just as easily be shut out as score ten runs, as they did in the second series meeting Tuesday.
Dane Dunning (1-2, 4.06 ERA) will get the start as Texas looks to complete the sweep.
