MLB Best Bets For Tuesday
MLB Best Bets
We are in for another exciting night of MLB action. Below are the best bets you can make on Tuesday, August 23, 2022!
Chicago White Sox (-150) vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Chicago White Sox will throw top pitcher Dylan Cease on Tuesday afternoon in an important series with the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles, who have been a major surprise with a pre-All-Star break surge that allowed Baltimore to move into the discussion for the American League Wild Card, are still hanging around.
The White Sox, who had heavy expectations in the preseason, have been spinning their wheels in a season more known for bizarre managerial decisions by Tony La Russa than for baseball itself.
Baltimore pitcher Austin Voth is 3-1 with a 4.86 ERA. However, the most important matchup for the Orioles will be how they handle Cease. Earlier in the season, Cease put on a masterclass against Baltimore, striking out 13 batters in seven innings. But it's nothing Baltimore should be discouraged by.
Cease has been mowing down mostly everyone he faces. He has a 12-5 record with a 2.09 ERA and ranks fourth in the league with 178 strikeouts. Back the White Sox to win behind Cease.
Yankees vs. Mets (+107)
The New York Yankees got a confidence-boosting victory Monday night by plating four runs off Mets' ace Max Scherzer to halt a two-game skid against the Mets.
If the Yankees can repeat the feat Tuesday night, they will earn a split in the Subway Series. New York will send Frankie Montas to the mound, who doesn't have pretty numbers.
Montas, who came over from the lowly Oakland A's at the trade deadline, is 4-10 with a 3.87 ERA. In his three starts with the Yankees so far, it's been a difficult stretch for Montas. He has been beaten up for six earned runs twice and has a 9.00 ERA in three starts.
The Mets will send out Taijuan Walker, who is 10-3 with a 3.36 ERA. He is coming off a short start against the Braves, where he was pulled after two innings in a 5-0 loss to Atlanta win in which he had back spasms. However, Walker has been cleared and will be ready for his second start against the Yankees.
During his first go-round with the Bronx Bombers, Walker picked up the win on July 26 by throwing six innings and allowed three earned runs to earn the win. Back New York to win behind Walker again.
Kansas City Royals (+105) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Kansas City Royals are coming off a big win against the rival Chicago White Sox. The Royals will try and build off that as home underdogs against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Neither team has been playing well of late.
The Royals have lost seven of their past ten games, while the Diamondbacks are 4-6 over their past 10. Kansas City starting pitcher Jonathan Heasley may be relieved to see the Diamondbacks.
Easily has struggled in four straight starts against teams likely destined for the playoffs. Pitching against an Arizona team that is also not going anywhere may help him settle in more. Zac Davies will make the start for the Diamondbacks. Davies is 2-4 this season with a 3.99 ERA.
Take Kansas City plus money at home.
Atlanta Braves (-1.5) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are in a tough situation Tuesday night. Pittsburgh hasn't been hitting well all season. Atlanta starting pitcher Max Fried and the Braves are rolling into PNC Park Tuesday night to try and keep pressure in the race for the NL East championship.
Being at home hasn't helped Pittsburgh much. The Pirates have lost three straight and five of seven on this homestand. Pittsburgh pitcher JT Brubaker has turned a corner since August started.
This month, Brewbaker is one and one with a 2.81 ERA. The problem for Brewbaker in the pitching staff is they don't get a whole lot of run support. Pittsburgh ranks 28th in the league in runs scored.
Facing Fried won't make their lives any easier in Atlanta should grab a win.
San Francisco (-1.5) vs. Detroit
The Giants are still on the fringe of the Wild Card race, but their playoff hopes are dimming by the minute. San Francisco is hoping Carlos Rodon can kick-start their momentum. Rodon has been on a tear as of late.
Rodon has struck out nine or more batters in four of his last five starts. Meanwhile, Detroit pitcher Drew Hutchison has had a difficult go of things this season.
Hutchison hasn't won a start since early July. Hutchison has also had to face some of the toughest competition the American League has to offer. All of Hutchison's last eight starts -- against Cleveland, Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay, and San Diego -- have been against teams with playoff aspirations.
Even though the Giants are very much a fringe possibility for the playoffs now, they should find enough offense to collect a win.
