Wednesday MLB Best Bets: 3 Games to Target
Wednesday MLB Best Bets
What once seemed like a 2022 Major League Baseball regular season that was never going to happen is now entering its second week as players and fans alike have been free from the confines of the lockout— and the early action has not disappointed.
The Los Angeles Dodgers found their footing against the Minnesota Twins, while the New York Yankees shut out the red-hot Toronto Blue Jays. Teams will be lining up to be the "hero of today" during Wednesday's loaded slate of action.
Here are the best bets out there for the midweek MLB matchups. See all our MLB Odds Here
Houston Astros vs Arizona Diamondbacks
The Houston Astros are off to a phenomenal start to the new season, posting a 4-1 record and only allowing more than one run a single time thus far.
This includes the first game in their current series against the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday, which ended 2-1 in favor of the visiting Astros. Michael Brantley made the difference with a late RBI off his third hit of the game, which is something that he is totally capable of on a consistent basis.
Arizona has been much the opposite of Houston and played at a level similar to the one that defined them during the last campaign. They are just 1-4 and have lost four straight games, and seemed destined to finish at the bottom of the National League West once again; Merrill Kelly will be charged with attempting to reverse this trend and match the level of Frambler Valdez, who did not allow a run in 6.2 innings in his first start.
Look for Houston to inevitably get its offense going while riding its stingy defense to a comfortable victory against the Diamondbacks.
Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees o8.5
The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0 in the first game of the series Tuesday, thanks largely to a two-run blast from New York's Aaron Hicks.
The Blue Jays' uncharacteristic shutout came with just five hits, and Vladimir Guerrero was held off the bases. Smart bettors can count on this trend coming to an end soon— sooner than many may be thinking.
Jose Berrios and Gerritt Cole headline the pitching matchup for Wednesday's battle, and while they may be large in name, both of them were poor in their first starts of the season, especially Berrios, who gave up four earned runs in .1 innings.
Both New York and Toronto are also defined by their offensive explosiveness and not their defensive solidarity, which feeds into the over here. Recent trends might suggest otherwise since both teams have been in a semi-lull lately, but all it takes is one moonshot to bring the energy into Yankee Stadium and start the free flow of balls over the outfield fence.
Seattle Mariners vs Chicago White Sox
The Seattle Mariners have been a walking embodiment of the word "mediocre" this season; they are 2-3, have been outscored by a total of nine runs, and took both of their wins by just one run, meaning they could easily be 0-5 already.
Even worse, they dropped the first game in the current series against the White Sox despite scoring a ninth-inning run to bring them within one. They are not going to have many opportunities to make more late-game comebacks at their current rate either, given that they have the second-worst batting average in the entire league (.183).
Chicago's only disadvantage in the matchup is that Dallas Keuchel, who is at the bottom of their pitching rotation, will have to battle against last year's American League Cy Young award winner, Robbie Ray.
Keuchel, to his credit, is better than most players in his position and is only two years removed from a season in which he pitched a 1.99 ERA in 63.1 innings of action, so it is not out of the realm of possibility for him to dish six or seven scoreless innings on Wednesday, especially with the way that the Mariners have been performing at the plate.
