Quarterbacks Leading the Way
The NFL MVP Award has turned into an award for the best quarterback in the league each year. Other positions are considered for this award, but the voters always tend to pick the best quarterback in the league at the end of the season.
There is a solid mix of young and veteran quarterbacks in the league today, and that’s where the NFL MVP odds start. The young quarterbacks are at the top of the list, but the veterans aren’t far behind.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is once again the betting favorite to win the NFL MVP Award, just as he was a season ago. Allen currently has odds set at +700, and it’s hard to deny that he doesn’t have the talent to win this award. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is next on the list at +800, and he has already won an MVP in his career. Mahomes and Allen had a terrific battle in the 2021 NFL Playoffs, and they will likely battle it out for years to come.
Until Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers finally retire for good, they are going to continue being listed at the top of the NFL MVP odds. That is the case yet again this season as Brady is listed at +800 and Rodgers is at +1000.
Brady has a team full of offensive weapons down in Tampa Bay, and he should once again put up some ridiculous numbers. Rodgers has won back-to-back NFL MVP Awards, and he just continues to put up ridiculous numbers at this point of his career.
There are other quarterbacks to bet on for the MVP Award, and here is a list of some players and their odds:
- Justin Herbert +1000
- Dak Prescott +1200
- Joe Burrow +1200
- Russell Wilson +1400
- Matthew Stafford +1400
- Kyler Murray +2000
- Lamar Jackson +2000
Great Value on Running Backs
If a position outside of quarterback is going to win the MVP Award, then you can expect that it will come from the running back position. There are currently two running backs in the NFL that are good enough to be in the MVP race, and there are some great odds on those players.
Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry both have MVP odds set at +5000, which is pretty great value for two of the best players in the NFL. Taylor came out of nowhere to have a monster season in 2021, and Henry is good enough to carry his team to the Super Bowl.
It’s hard to see Taylor having a better season than he had in 2021, and that could be a reason to keep you from betting on him. Henry has to prove that he can stay healthy, but he will put up numbers that will be MVP worthy if he is able to get through the season.
Underdogs to Watch Out For
The best thing about the NFL is that new players and teams seem to emerge every single year. This is also a league that is loaded with young talent, and some of those young players could make a surprising run to the MVP Award.
Derek Carr is one player that has interesting odds at +2500, and there is reason to believe that this will be his best season of his career. Carr will now have a new weapon in Davante Adams, and that offense should be one of the best in the league. Trey Lance has odds set at +4000 to win the NFL MVP Award, and he is set to take over as starting quarterback in San Francisco. Lance has all of the tools necessary to win the NFL MVP Award but now has to prove it on the field.
There is a slew of young quarterbacks that you can get from +5000 to +10000, and at least a few of those players are going to have a big season. We haven’t even talked about a reverie yet, and there is one option for that as well.
Cooper Kupp is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and he has odds set at +7500. Adams and Deebo Samuel have odds set at +10000, and they could be in the mix also.
