The Wild Card rounds of the MLB playoffs have concluded, and it’s time for the division series. The ALDS and NLDS are great because it equates to four total series. After this, we only have three remaining series, so our betting options are narrowed.
In this round, there are plenty of great betting options. You may want to bet single games, but a great way to win big in the division series is by placing a four-team series parlay. The unknown nature of the parlay gives this wager the potential for a lucrative payout.
Red Sox Defeat Rays
The Boston Red Sox are a streaky team, and they will be riding high following their win over New York in the ALWC. Tampa Bay has a better team, but if the Red Sox play well, they can win this series and advance.
Boston was a 92-win team in 2021, so the Rays cannot take them lightly. Additionally, they are set up well for their pitching. Eduardo Rodriguez will start the series for Red Sox against Shane McClanahan in Tampa Bay.
Nathan Eovaldi, who dazzled fans at Fenway in the Wild Card, will be ready for game four. Chris Sale and Nick Pivetta will likely handle the starts in the next two contests. The bottom line with Boston is that nobody expected them to be in this position, which makes them dangerous.
The Rays are one of the most sound teams in the game. However, they do not have mind-blowing talent. The Red Sox need to contain Wander Franco and perform well in the early innings of games. Boston was 8-11 against Tampa Bay, so if they win the series, it will likely go five games. Nevertheless, I believe Boston is dangerous in October, and they will shock the baseball world in the ALDS.
Astros Defeat White Sox
This series is going to be epic, but the Houston Astros should win in four games. Chicago does not have the lineup to hit with Houston over a full series. If the Astros go into the late innings with a one-run lead or tied, they will have difficulty prevailing in the series.
However, if they show up and bring their A-game, they will roll the White Sox. The White Sox play in the American League Central, and this was the worst division in baseball. Their record against bad teams was solid, and the majority of their 93 wins came against these opponents.
The Astros had a difficult schedule in the surging AL West. They have scored approximately 60 more runs than Chicago and hit 31 more bombs. They have a better slugging percentage and OBP. For Chicago to earn the series win, they will have to keep Houston off the board. This is easier said than done, considering Houston has a tremendous pitching staff, which is not too far off Chicago.
This will be a competitive series, but Houston finds a way to win and not make this go five games.
Brewers Defeat Braves
This series does not have tremendous entertainment value, but it will be competitive. The Braves can play with the Brewers because they have a superior offense. Milwaukee has prided themselves on winning close games in 2021.
This will be the case in the postseason if they want to advance. The Brewers cannot allow the Braves to break games open early. They have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball with a cumulative 3.50 ERA compared to Atlanta, which is pushing 4.00. Milwaukee is a 95-win team, but they did not play in a great division. The Cardinals came alive late in the National League Central, but the division was weak throughout 2021.
Atlanta needs to hit, but the arsenal of Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff will be too much for them to overcome. The Braves will face Burnes in the first game of the series and then see him again on Thursday in the finale.
Dodgers Defeat Giants
The National League West was the best division in baseball in 2021. Los Angeles was bested in the division by San Francisco by one game. The Giants won 107 games en route to the division title, but nobody expects them to beat the Dodgers over five games.
Los Angeles is so tough to beat in a series because of their pitching arsenal. They have Walker Buehler, Max Scherzer, and Julio Urias who will be active. However, Los Angeles’ offense has been lackluster lately, and this is not a winning formula. They were nearly beaten by the Cardinals in the NLWC because they did not hit well. Pitching allowed them to advance, but their repeat hopes were nearly cut short.
This is going to be a competitive series, and it will likely go five games. San Francisco has done everything right in 2021, but you cannot bet against the Dodgers.
