NFL Preseason Week 2 FREE Picks
FREE NFL Preseason Bets
The second week of the NFL preseason is nearly here. The opening week was a lot of fun, as the next wave of QB’s gave the spectators the first look at what the future could look like. Plenty of blowouts ensued, with some good games also on the docket. Of course, this is all just a dress rehearsal for the 18-week season which begins in a few short weeks.
And as week 2 comes into focus, there are some games that have to bet on, because it would be money thrown down the toilet if the opportunity just passed by. So, let’s take a look at the easy ones.
Chicago Bears +1 vs Buffalo Bills
In the regular season, picking Chicago over Buffalo would not only be crazy, but funny. Thinking that they would be capable of knocking out a team of Buffalo’s caliber? There is not a chance of that happening. But in the preseason, everything is flipped because the A-tier guys are not getting so many if any, reps.
Justin Fields shined in his preseason debut and will be looking to build on his strong effort. The QB1 job is not necessarily his yet, with Andy Dalton also lurking. He was paid $10 on a one-year deal to be a potential stopgap of sorts. He filled in for an injured Dak Prescott last year and has some good moments in Dallas. And now, he’s in a competition.
Teams with those QB battles will generally outperform those with a set starter. The signal-callers have a lot more to be playing for than a team where some guys are competing to be backups and third-stringers. Chicago is due for a big year, and it all starts with the preseason.
Josh Allen won’t have his normal reps, nor will the team’s top wideouts and backs. And all things considered, the end-of-bench, bubble guys, will not do so well and it will result in a Bears preseason victory.
Jets +3.5 vs Packers
Jets +3.5 vs Green Bay would also be laughable if it was a pick made in October. But, this is August and it’s all about the preseason. Zach Wilson looked pretty good in his team debut and will have a few drives to show what he can do for his club. While on the other side, Jordan Love will be showcasing what he’s capable of.
Behind Wilson, there is a battle going on to determine QB2. 35-year-old Josh Johnson was picked up, and he’s competing with Mike White and James Morgan. Neither are household names but will have plenty of chances. And the opportunity to see second-round WR Elijah Moore will be fun.
The Jets took LG Alijah Vera-Tucker in the first round, so we’ll continue to see how he can block. After taking Mekhi Becton last year, they’ve been putting the picks in to fix the line.
Green Bay will have a new center in rookie Josh Myers, so this will be a valuable experience for him. Seventh-round RB Kylin Hill has a lot to show in order to make the roster with several backs ahead of him, but that’s what this is all about.
Amari Rodgers and Eric Stokes will get a lot of reps as they prepare for their opening NFL campaigns. There are a lot of rookies here competing, so it will be fun to watch GB. But they won’t beat the hungry, younger Jets.
New England Patriots -2.5 vs Philadelphia Eagles
The Pats will defeat the Eagles in this contest, and that’s just how it is. As to why that is going to happen, a two-word answer can suffice. Mac Jones. The Alabama product is competing with Cam Newton for the QB job, and he’s hungry, so he’ll be playing his tail off. The battle is going to make each guy better in these types of games.
With New England’s revamped WR corps, he has some great targets to hit during his time on the field. The better he looks in this game, the quicker he will see the playing field in the NFL. And that being said, it will happen early in the season. It will be fun to watch him sling it all over Philly’s D.
And on that Eagles side, watching DeVonta Smith will be great. The QB room in Philly is a fun one. Jalen Hurts comes into the year as QB1, with Nick Mullens and Joe Flacco behind him. Both of those guys are looking to stick around for longer. Flacco spent the 2020 season with the Jets, while Mullens found reps in San Fran with Jimmy G missing so many games.
They can both fling it deep to their guys, and it will make life fun for the receivers. This is a new era for Philly, but they will take the preseason loss to a Pats team trying to prove themselves a bit more.
