2023 National League Cy Young Updated Odds
As the All-Star Break has come and gone, it’s time to really start dialing in and getting a closer look at some of the end-of-the-season awards.
One of the most competitive awards out there right now is the National League, Cy Young. As we approach the month of August, here is a look at the Top 5 candidates with their current odds.
Spencer Strider, Atlanta Braves +210
In all actuality, probably the most talented pitcher on this list right now. Strider has been unbelievable, and his ability to strike out batters when he needs it most is what separates him from the pack right now. Strider is averaging over 14 K/9.
The Atlanta Braves ace has thrown 110 innings, which is less than most on this list, and struck out 176 batters. It cannot hurt that the Atlanta Braves have the best record in baseball. The best pitcher on the best team. Seems like a pretty good chance he should win this award. You can get him at +210.
Zac Gallen, Arizona Diamondbacks +250
Gallen is not too far off Strider here. The All-Star game starting pitcher has been nothing short of fantastic for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks have fallen off as of late, and there are questions about whether they can hang for the long haul.
But, for now, he has been fantastic. Gallen is second in the National League in innings pitched, with 123.1.
His 130 strikeouts to 26 walks gives him the ability to get in and out of trouble when he needs to. Gallen has a 3.14 earned run average and heads into the second half of the season tied for the most wins.
Blake Snell, San Diego Padres +550
Blake Snell has been a shining light on an otherwise horrific season for the San Diego Padres.
Not only were the Padres supposed to contend in the National League West, but also be one of the best teams in all of Major League Baseball. Instead, they are floundering under .500 and seem to have very little chance. Snell has been great, though, despite a win-loss record of under .500.
Snell’s era is the best in the National League, at 2.71, and his 139 strikeouts are second to only Strider in the National League. It’s been nice to see a resurgence from the 30-year-old, as there were some questions coming into the season.
Logan Webb, San Francisco Giants +750
If you want to talk about an innings eater - that’s Logan Webb. Webb is the ace on a staff that has surprised all of Major League Baseball.
The Giants are not only contending for the National League Wildcard but also the National League West. Webb has a league-leading 133 innings pitched and has struck out 134 batters.
Only Strider and Snell have more strikeouts in the NL. Webb comes into the second half with just an 8-7 record, but his 3.11 ERA will play, and his ability to get late into ball games is a massive asset.
Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers +1300
A guy that is no stranger to winning this award. In fact, Kershaw has won the award three times in his career. This is a surefire Hall of Famer. He has turned back the clock again this season with a 10-4 record and a 2.55 earned run average. Kershaw is just shy of 100 innings pitched.
While he currently sits on the 15-day IL - when you look at his numbers, you have to put him into the National League Cy Young talk discussion.
Others in Consideration
Justin Steele, Chicago Cubs, +1900
A flash in the pan or a legitimate lefthander with stud stuff for the Cubs?
Marcus Stroman, Chicago Cubs, +2000
Stroman has always had good stuff; his question is, can he keep it together?
Mitch Keller, Pittsburgh Pirates +2200
Big strikeout arm for Pittsburgh. He and his Pirates have faded fast in the National League Central.
Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies, +3000
The Phillies are lurking. While not going to win National League East, this will be another tough team to eliminate in October.
Jesus Luzardo, Miami Marlins +3000
Luzardo has great swing-and-miss stuff as the front end of the rotation guy for the surprising Marlins in 2023.
There you have it. That’s a complete list and the top 10 betting odds to win the National League Cy Young award. If you have yet to bet it, and there are some odds you like out there, be sure to get your bets in, as the odds are changing with each start.
Best of luck with all your Major League Baseball betting, and enjoy the rest of the season!
